What is a blog?

A blog is a user-generated web site. Entries are made in journal style that contains text, images, links to other blogs, web pages, or other media related to the blog's topic. The term "blog" comes from a blend of the words web and log.

Blogger officially turned 10 years old. Here are some interesting fun facts about Blogger:

Every minute of every day, 270,000 words are written on Blogger. Millions of people worldwide use Blogger to publish to their blog each week.

Learning about Blogging.

After first learning a little more about what a blog is and some of the uses of this technology, I concluded with a review of the assigned reading article “The 25 Basic Styles of Blogging.” Prior to deciding what type of tools I would use for my blog, I decided on the “feature” style blog for ease of compatibility.

I decided to use the http://blogger.com site for my blog.
My experience using the http://blogger.com site was surprisingly easy.

Our assigned reading for the week and the information from Chapter 2 of our text gave examples of the various styles of blogging when and how they are used and provided some of the possible uses of blogging in a classroom setting. We also learned that blogging can be an effective way of communicating with others and is similar to a black board discussion forum. I think what makes the introduction of blogging as a classroom or communicating tool is that so little is known about this technology and there are many assumptions about this technology and it’s utilization that must first be overcome.

I found that once I was able to set aside my own bias about the utilization of this technology in a classroom or communication setting I was able to begin to expand my ability to think of the various ways that this could be used. As I continue through this class I will be updating my blog page in my chosen feature style to further examine the potential uses of blogging for the classroom or communication venues.
